Single—Element

Yael is back with another single titled “Element”. This single is a pivot from the lovey dovey records fans are used to hearing in her catalog. Atleast in recent memory. She’s talking her shit and she’s doing it well. The lyrics tell a story about a confident woman that’s grounded in her peace and doesn’t need unnecessary distractions disturbing that.

Element opens with a sixteen-bar trance, ushered by set of (guitar) chord progressions that create and maintain an atmosphere for the remaining ingredients to live in, with an assist from a soft harmonic run. The drums kick in at the top of the first verse and for the remainder of the song, they change in cadence with the lyrics as if there’s an unspoken yet understood choreography happening within the DNA of the song. The adlibs are subtle but present enough to add that extra lift to the track, and it all blends together in perfection. There’s a lot to love mechanically about this song, but what I love most is the experience it brings. Element sounds like a live rendition of a recorded version because of the intentional use of live elements (no pun intended). I could picture this being performed live as I listened for the first time; with additional images of the crowd bouncing to it. Might have a few women in that crowd that showed up with their best friend, reciting lyrics to each other because of the relatable content in the song. It this is only the second single; one could only imagine what the full-length project sounds like. This is good Yael, so good.

Be sure to purchase Element on bandcamp, give it a few spins on DSP’s and add it to your playlists.
