Single— Do You?

Dylan Reese has reemerged back on the airwaves with a new single titled “Do You”, just in time to pull summer your crush in the fold for the fall. With consent, of course. In a masterful fashion, he unravels the introspections of love, through an emotional plea to someone he shares a deep history with. And yearns to dive a little deeper. Though feelings are written in bold, the hesitation of losing the other party altogether remains at the forefront of Dylan’s curiosity. As a listener, you could imagine the feeling is likely mutual.

When it comes to R&B, the small choices in instrumentation could altar the outcome of a meaningful song. In other words, it’s important that your instruments and effects help convey the message. Match the mood. For example, the acoustic opening marinades the nearly three minute experience and elevates an ambiance of someone looking to finally confront their love interest, in pursuit of a good outcome. Motion is equally important and there’s an exceptional use of low pass filters embedded in the verse, that allows the song to bloom and gives the chorus an enormous space to operate. Simple, yet effective. Sonically, this record is reminiscent of a mid 2000’s Timbaland joint, specifically bright textures of Justin’s FutureSex/LoveSound album. If “My Love” had a child and the visible genes were the explosive drums we’ve always loved in Timbo’s production. I repeat, choices.

I recognize the times we’re in don’t require music videos to push singles but I am 150% in the camp of needing there to be a visual, prayerfully something nostalgic, but in the mean time you can enjoy the single here. Be sure to give it a few spins. Tell ya mama to do the same. Double salute to Dylan for another hit!
